Georgetown Co. to conduct active school shooting training sessions

GEORGETOWN COUTY, SC (WCSC) - The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office has planned two active shooter training sessions for schools in Georgetown County this month.

The active shooter joint training sessions will be held at Waccamaw High School on August 7-8 and August 11-12. The active shooter training exercises will be conducted by Georgetown County deputies and the SC Law Enforcement Division. School resource officers, Georgetown Police Department, and Pawleys Island Police Department will assist in the training.

Officials say the training will involve one day of classroom instruction followed by a day of practicing scenarios in a school setting.

“It is unfortunate that this type of training is necessary,” according to Dr. Randy Dozier, Superintendent of the Georgetown County District, “but we are pleased to work with the Sheriff’s Office and SLED to provide the best possible training for the law enforcement officers who protect our schools.”

The public should expect to see a large law enforcement presence in the area during the training dates.
