Lowcountry native Shelby Rogers scored maybe the biggest win of her career beating hometown favorite Eugenie Bouchard in Montreal for the Rogers Cup 6-0, 2-6, 6-0 on Tuesday night.
For Rogers, the win over Bouchard (who's ranked 8th in the world) not only moves her into the 3rd round of the tournament, but also likely will push her into the WTA Top 100 for the 1st time in her career.
Despite being the underdog and playing in Bouchard's backyard, Rogers enjoyed the atmosphere in Montreal. “It was cool to see the support she has here and it's fun to see that much support for tennis,” Rogers said. “I knew what I was getting into so I was prepared for it. I hope that doesn't happen too often, but I know she's a mega superstar up here.”
Rogers now moves on to face the tournaments 11 seed Caroline Wozniacki in the 3rd round.
