The rush is on to finish new CCSD schools

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Exciting news for some students East of the Cooper and on James Island as the first day of schools gets closer: construction crews, teachers and principals are working overtime to get schools like Sullivan's Island Elementary ready for students.

Right now, there are still tractors and dirt on the site with less than two weeks to go.

Charleston County has three new schools opening this year: Sullivan's Island Elementary, the Center for Advanced Studies at Wando High School and Harbor View Elementary on James island.

District officials say all three are running on time and will be ready for students on August 18. Charleston is the only district in the Tri-County area opening new schools this year.

Dorchester District Two will open four new schools in 2015. Berkeley County will open the new Nexton Elementary and finish up additions to Stratford High School next year.

DD4 will announce their plans new projects before the end of next month.
