Man charged in downtown Charleston armed robbery

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police say a 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an August 1 armed robbery in downtown Charleston.

Brandon Rashard Cummings was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with armed robbery, assault and battery first degree, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

According to police, the robbery occurred on the 100 block of Congress Street. Armed with a handgun, Cummings allegedly approached the male victim, assaulted him, and then took his money.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Cummings is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.
