Haley earns SC Chamber of Commerce endorsement, Sheheen "not surprised"

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Less than 100 days remain before South Carolina voters decide who will hold the state's top seat.

Thursday, the State Chamber of Commerce announced its candidate of choice, endorsing Gov. Nikki Haley in the 2014 November election.

Haley, who will face Democratic candidate Sen. Vincent Sheheen, and Independent Tom Irvin, made the announcement in four cities Thursday, with stops in Greenville, Myrtle Beach, Ladson, and Blythewood.

Sheheen said the endorsement was "not surprising," despite earning the Chamber's approval four years ago, in the 2010 gubernatorial election.

"It's a very different group now than it was four years ago," he said.

Former State Chamber of Commerce Chair Michael Brenan said the decision to endorse Haley was an easy one.  Brenan touted a record of job creation as the biggest reason for the nod.

"Nothing's changed for me," Haley added.
"What I knew was I had to prove them wrong.

Independent candidate Tom Irvin was not in town Thursday, but his campaign announced the release his first campaign advertisement, which features his passion and commitment to veterans in South Carolina.
