Woman arrested after fatally shooting husband in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A woman from Hemingway is in custody after deputies say the woman shot and killed her husband Friday night.

Georgetown County deputies have arrested 58-year-old Sonia Gay Smith for the murder of her husband, 60-year-old Fermiond Smith. Smith was arrested at their residence located at 1572 Ray Road in the Hemingway section of Georgetown County.

Officials say at around 9:30 p.m. Friday night, deputies were called to the residence after Smith called 911 saying she just shot her husband.

Deputies say when they arrived, the victim was lying on the floor unresponsive. Authorities found Smith inside the residence and took her into custody.

A spokesman from the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office says at this time, information gathered from the investigation shows the shooting was domestic related.

Georgetown deputies are currently investigating the scene.

Smith has been taken to the Georgetown County Detention Center where officials say "she will be formally charged with Murder."
