SEALE, AL (WTVM) -

Christian Grissom was granted a $1 million bond during his preliminary hearing in Russell County. Grissom is accused of murdering his cousin, 19-year-old Keonte Chavis.

On Aug. 14, Sheriff's Deputies brought Grissom to the Russell County Jail from New York, where he fled. Grissom has been on the run from police ever since his cousin was found dead on a dirt road near Seale. Chavis was reported missing a few days before her body was discovered on Aug. 9.

The Russell County coroner says Chavis was killed by strangulation and blunt force trauma. Authorities say Grissom was the last person to see Chavis alive.

Officers say Grissom is also wanted by police in Florida for domestic violence charges, and was on his way to New York when Chavis was reported missing.
