A back-to-school bash, a bridal fashion show and a world record attempt top this week's 5 Around Town

This is the last weekend of summer vacation for most students in the lowcountry. They can celebrate the start of a new school year with a back-to-school party. Anyone planning a wedding can get a look at the latest and greatest at a bridal fashion show. Plus, the Riverdogs need your help for a world record attempt. It's all happening in this week's 5 Around Town.

The day before most students around the Lowcountry head back to class, the City of Charleston is throwing its annual back to school party. Kids and parents can come out Sunday for the 12th Annual First Day Festival at Liberty Square in front of the South Carolina Aquarium and the Charleston Maritime Center. The festival from 1:00 to 4:00 pm will include exhibits, face painting, a kids zone, and a school supply and backpack giveaway. Admission into the Aquarium is also free. Find out more on the Charleston city website

The Charleston Riverdogs are teaming up with CARTA to try and break a world record and they need you and a childlike spirit to make it happen. Saturday night, they will try to break the record for the largest kazoo ensemble. The current record is 5,190 in 2011 at England's Royal Albert Hall. Fans will get an official wristband and a kazoo made at Beaufort-based Kazoobie Kazoos. Then stick around to the end of the game to join in a kazoo chorus of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." The Riverdogs face the Rome Braves Saturday at 6:05 pm. You can get tickets to the game at riverdogs.com

It's time for another "Girls Day Out" for the latest bridal show here in the lowcountry. The Southern Bridal Show is Sunday at the Charleston Area Convention Center. Brides-to-be and bridesmaids can meet with professionals in the wedding industry to get help with everything for the big day. Photographers, caterers, stylists, DJs and florists will be there to offer their services and expertise. You'll even find help starting your registry. The doors open at 12 pm with a bridal fashion show at 4:00 pm. All registered brides get a FREE one year subscription to Brides Magazine. They can also register to win a honeymoon! Tickets are $15 cash only at the door. You can order online for $10 at the event website

You can trash your old computers and accessories you no longer need this weekend. You can also safely get rid of any personal documents at the same time. Palmetto Goodwill is holding an e-waste roundup and shredding event Saturday at Computer Works, at 6813 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston, from 9 a.m. until noon. For more information, Click Here

If you're in downtown Charleston Saturday, the Powder Magazine is holding another of its Saturday presentations focusing on the city's Colonial history. The program is offered from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and will include a museum tour and a scavenger hunt through Charleston's historic district. Go to powdermag.org for more details.

New students at College of Charleston and The Citadel will be moving in this weekend. Something to keep in mind since it could impact traffic around the campuses, especially around CofC.
