Charleston County School District preps for first day of school, over 350 new teachers hired


Expectations among Charleston County School District leaders are at an all-time high.

The district has hired over 350 new teachers, at least ten new principals, to coincide with three brand new schools expected to open next week.

Thursday, CCSD officials stood alongside Superintendent Dr. Nancy McGinley in one of those schools, Harbor View Elementary on James Island.

The new building, which pays homage to the historic McLeod Plantation, hails a price tag of $26 million dollars, which includes the cost of construction, demolition, and relocation.

McGinley said the new facility now matches the quality of the schools teachers and students, which stands among 60% of Charleston County Schools with a state rating of good or excellent.

Now in her 8th year at the helm, Dr. McGinley urged all CCSD parents to have students in class for the first day of school.

The district is also offering information through a parent help line, available through August 20th, which includes a separate line for transportation questions.  The numbers, and operating times are listed below:
