Water pipeline serving Sullivan's Island, IOP back in service

SULLIVAN'S ISLAND, SC (WCSC) -

Water crews completed the repair of a leak discovered in a 20-inch water main that supplies water to Sullivan's Island and supplements the Isle of Palms' water supply, ending a restriction on outdoor watering.

Initial repairs were completed Sunday, according to a spokesperson for the Charleston Water System. Testing to confirm the water meets all regulatory health requirements was completed on Monday.

Crews have not determined what caused the leak, but say a large clamp around the pipe stopped it. CWS plans to add a second clamp to reinforce the pipeline, but that additional work is not expected to affect water service.

The outdoor watering ban was a precautionary measure to ensure the Isle of Palms could temporarily supply water for its residents and Sullivan's Island during repairs. Isle of Palms deep water wells supplied the backup supply during the temporary switch.
