Former Smith Co. prosecutor sentenced to jail for DWI

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A former prosecutor for the Smith County district attorney's office was sentenced to jail time on Thursday for a DWI conviction.

Joseph Murphy, 38, was sentenced to 40 days in jail and ordered to pay a $500 fine. Murphy was arrested in November 2013.

He left the DA's office back in 2010. At one point, he was also a contract prosecutor for the city of Tyler. 

The city says his last contract was November 2013. In fact, the city says Murphy's last docket was on November 13th, which is also the night he was arrested.
