Orangeburg County murder suspect surrenders to authorities

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Investigators with the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office say a 36-year-old man sought for a fatal shooting on Sunday morning has surrendered to authorities.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said Shagura Ramon Mack was arrested at 6:15 p.m. on Monday by investigators in Orangeburg County.

"Mack was informed that his photo was online as wanted in the fatal shooting of another Orangeburg man," Ravenell said."Mack contacted law enforcement and turned himself in at approximately 6:15 p.m."

Deputies say additional charges are pending. Mack was wanted for murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

At 12:27 a.m. on Sunday, deputies responded to the Regional Medical Center for a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell says a preliminary investigation indicated that the victim and a friend went to meet an acquaintance on Belleville Road.

According to Ravenell, as the two were leaving, Mack ran to the vehicle and began firing shots in the vehicle, fatally shooting the 29-year-old passenger. The victim was then driven to the hospital by his friend.

"It is imperative that we send a clear and decisive message to criminals in this county," Ravenell said." We will utilize an abundance of resources to bring the thugs and hoodlums disturbing our county and neighborhoods to justice."
