GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County School District officials say no one was hurt when a school bus caught on fire at a Goose Creek neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.
According to officials with the Goose Creek Rural Fire Department, the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. in the area of Apple Circle in the Willowbrook subdivision.
GCRFD officials had reported that the bus driver was able to get kids onboard the bus safely off the vehicle. However, district officials said Wednesday night that there were no students on the bus during the time of the fire, and the incident started following the completion of the bus route.
BCSD officials said a bus driver and assistant were the only people onboard and were able to exit the bus unharmed.
A homeowner in the area took a picture of the bus on fire and said he initially heard an explosion, then looked out and saw the bus on fire.
According to the homeowner, he could hear what sounded like pieces of glass hitting his home following the reported explosion.
"I was in my house and we just heard a loud bang," said Josh Taylor who took pictures and video of the bus fire."I just got out here and this is what I see."
The bus was towed away around 7 p.m.
School district officials say that the cause of the bus fire is undetermined.
