WALLBACK, WV (WOWK/CBS) - Police made a strange discovery in the trunk of a man who rolled his vehicle over on the interstate early Friday.

Seth Grim crashed his Ford Explorer on Interstate 79 around 4 a.m. A dog tried to jump out of the window and later died, and Smith was taken to the hospital with minor injuries to his upper torso.

And then things got wacky. In the back of the SUV were 35 to 40 chickens, some of which had died.

Authorities also found an AK-47 with a large amount of ammunition and a device that police called an "improvised explosive," which prompted a higher level of response.

The West Virginia State Police Bomb Squad was sent to the scene and removed the device.

Smith was jailed and held on a $25,000 bond.
