CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Live 5 Chief Meteorologist Bill Walsh accepted the ice bucket challenge from Trooper Bob Beres of the South Carolina Highway Patrol and others on Friday.
Beres was one of several people who challenged Walsh. Others included John Harrell and radio personalities Rocky D and Brother Dale.
The rules stipulate that anyone challenged must either dump a bucket of ice water over their heads and donate $10 to the ALS Association, or skip the dousing and donate $100 instead.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease and motor neuron disease, is a progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in the body, resulting in the loss of the brain's ability to control muscle movement, and, eventually, death. There is currently no cure for ALS.
The ice bucket challenge raises money for research into a cure for the disease.
