Report: Inmate back in custody after escaping from deputy at Trident Hospital

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Officials with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office say a 20-year-old inmate is back in custody after running from a deputy at Trident Hospital Wednesday morning.

BCSO officials say Chelsea Renee Sones had been transported to the hospital complaining of pain in her abdomen and was treated at the ER and released.

A report states that as she was being escorted to a patrol car at 12:39 am to be taken back to the detention center, she bolted from the scene and managed to elude the deputy.

Officers from several jurisdictions, including North Charleston, Charleston and the Highway Patrol, assisted in setting up a perimeter around the wooded area near the I-26 and Highway 78 overpass, and used K-9's to track her.

Sones was captured an hour and a half later and transported back to the Hill-Finklea Detention Center where she was being held on shoplifting and resisting arrest charges.

She now also faces a charge of escape.
