Shem Creek restaurant hosts new life jacket loaner program

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Lowcountry boaters now have a new safety resource and it's completely free. New loaner life jackets are available for anyone to use at Red's Ice House on Shem Creek.

That's just one of six locations where these jackets will be stationed for borrowing. Each station will have 170 life jackets.

Sea Tow Foundation, the non profit organization that provided them, says it's all based on the honor system. No sign up is necessary, a name is not even required to borrow them.

It's part of Sea Tow Foundation's nationwide initiative to increase safety on the water.

Other locations where the life jacket loaner station will be:

  • RiversEdge Marina in North Charleston
  • Charleston Co. Parks and Recreation office in Charleston
  • Morgan Creek Grill in Isle of Palms
  • Red's Ice House on Seabrook Island
  • Shem Creek Marina
