MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Mount Pleasant Police arrested a 64-year-old man early Friday morning after a wrong-way collision on the Ravenel Bridge.
Walter Jenkins was charged with driving under the influence, according to a police report.
Police initially responded to a report of a head-on collision in the southbound lanes of the bridge at around 11:35 p.m. Friday. The other driver told police he was driving south on the southbound side when he saw headlights approaching him from a vehicle traveling north in a southbound lane.
The driver said he swerved to the left and that Jenkins' car struck him on the right side.
Jenkins admitted to having three or four beers while at a downtown bar, the police report states.
The other driver sustained minor injuries in the accident and later sought medical attention, police say.
Jenkins was being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
SCDOT reported two lanes of traffic on the bridge were closed until just before 1 a.m. Friday.
