BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Highway Patrol says they have arrested a 41-year-old man after a hit-and-run accident killed a pedestrian early Saturday morning in Berkeley County.
Authorities say it happened just before 1 a.m. Saturday morning on Highway 17A near Mitten Road in Moncks Corner. Officials say Michael Stephens was arrested after he hit a pedestrian in a 1995 Chevy pick-up towing a boat, and then left the scene. Troopers say Stephens was stopped a short time after the accident, and taken into custody.
Troopers say Stephens has been charged with driving under the influence, open container, and leaving the scene of an accident involving a death.
The Berkeley County Coroner's Office says Sedaris Mabry, 55, of Moncks Corner, died after being struck near Berkeley Middle School.
The Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
