CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Units with multiple agencies responded to a fire at a three-story building on East bay Street Saturday afternoon.
Officials say that arriving crews extinguished a small fire near an electrical service meter near the front of the structure.
The space is currently under renovation, according to fire officials. Contractors working at the space say they smelled smoke and discovered the fire.
Officials say the fire was contained to a small area near the front of the structure. Smoke spread throughout the three stories and into a restaurant that is attached behind the renovated space.
East Bay Street was closed for about two hours while crews worked to put out the fire and ventilated smoke from the structure.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
