CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Tuesday, the owner of Church Creek Plaza failed to respond to a lawsuit from Charleston County deeming the property a nuisance.
On July 25, the county filed the lawsuit asking a judge to force the owners to clean up the property at Highway 61 and Parsonage Road or let the county bill them for the cleanup. The once-booming shopping center is now almost completely empty except for one Chinese restaurant.
According to court documents, the sheriff's office has documented at least 50 crimes at the center.
The default judgment will go in the county's favor, but it's not clear yet if the county will have the right to tear it down.
