Authorities investigate gunshots fired near a North Charleston Middle School

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston police officers responded to the area of a North Charleston middle school after hearing gunshots fired Friday night.

Police say at around 10:30 p.m. Friday, officers working the Stall/North Charleston football game at Northwoods Middle School heard gunshots in the distance, away from the field.

Authorities say as the officers working the game responded to the area in front of Northwoods Middle School, a fight between two females between two females and a crowd were at the scene.

Authorities say many individuals ran from the scene. Officers say they observed several individuals off of school property and approached them.

Police say one juvenile was found to be in possession of a firearm. Officers say it has not been determined that the juvenile was responsible for the gunshots.

Authorities say the juvenile was taken into custody for possession of a firearm.

Police say at this time, there is no evidence indicating the gunshots were fired on school grounds.
