NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The head of the South Carolina Ports Authority is delivering his annual State of the Ports address.
Jim Newsome is speaking at noon on Monday in North Charleston at the meeting of the Charleston Propeller Club.
It's been a good year for the state's ports, with revenues for the fiscal year that ended on June 30th up 17 percent over the previous fiscal year. And the April-through-June quarter of this year was the strongest quarter for the ports since 2007 when the Great Recession began.
Newsome is also expected to discuss the authority's efforts to build a new cruise terminal in Charleston, a project which opponents have challenged in the courts.
