Police: N. Charleston man arrested for filing false aggravated assault report

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police say they arrested a 26-year-old man who accidentally shot himself  for filing a false report that claimed he was the victim of an aggravated assault.

Arthur Lee Love, of North Charleston, is charged with filing a false felony police report, possession of a stolen handgun, discharging a firearm and unlawful carrying of a handgun, according to police spokesman Charles Francis.

Love told investigators he called an acquaintance who drove him to the hospital after the shooting, Francis said.

The acquaintance told police she picked up Love in Brittlebank Park, and said she later saw him place something in the trunk of her vehicle.

She gave police consent to search the vehicle, and investigators found a pistol wrapped in a bloody t-shirt hidden in the tire wheel well, along with a spent shell casing on the front passenger floor board near a pool of blood, Francis said.

Investigators say Love accidentally shot himself in his left ankle while inside his friend's vehicle at Brittlebank Park.

Love was being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

The investigation continues, Francis said.
