HOLLY HILL, SC (WCSC) - Deputies in Orangeburg County arrested a 74-year-old they say shot a 35-year-old who had asked him for 27 cents.
John Henry Elmore, of Holly Hill, is facing a charge of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
Deputies responded to a home on Hutto Market Street in Holly Hill on Saturday at about 12:03 p.m. for a report of a man shot in the leg, according to Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell.
"Our investigation indicates the victim asked (Elmore) for 27 cents. Elmore became upset, went in his residence to retrieve his shotgun, and fired at the victim," Ravenell said.
Elmore was released on a $7,500 bond set on Sunday by a magistrate judge, according to the sheriff's office.
