Agencies tweet support after shooting of Charleston County deputies

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Law enforcement agencies are taking to social media to offer their support to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office after the shooting of two deputies Monday night.

At 12 a.m., Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon announced one deputy had died and another remained in the hospital in serious condition following a shooting at the Gardens of Ashley River apartment complex Monday just after 7:30 p.m.

Investigators say two off-duty deputies who were working security  with three on-duty deputies responded to the apartment complex for a report of a disorderly subject creating a disturbance.

When deputies attempted to make contact with the male subject at this apartment, officials say the subject fired multiple gunshots through the door, striking two Charleston County deputies who were on duty. One of the deputies at the scene reportedly returned fire.

A nine-hour standoff with the subject did not end until 4:28 a.m. Information on the status of the subject will be released at a noon press conference.

As news broke that two deputies were shot during the incident, law enforcement and local agencies took to Twitter and Facebook to offer their thoughts and prayers to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, and the families of those involved.
