MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Mt. Pleasant police say a 27-year-old man who claimed he was robbed at gunpoint while outside a bank earlier this month is now behind bars after it was discovered he made the whole thing up.
Authorities reportedly received a call from Drake Michael Snide on September 5, claiming he was robbed at gunpoint while outside CresCom Bank in Wando Crossing. After the alleged robbery, Snide drove back to his place of employment to call police.
According to a police report, Snide told officers he was taking a deposit bag from his work to the bank. As he was leaving the bank, Snide claimed a male approached him from behind and pressed a handgun to his back.
Snide told police he spun around and punched the suspect in the face, causing the suspect to drop the gun and run away without any stolen cash.
During a follow up interview on September 10, investigators say it was discovered Snide fabricated the story and filed a false police report.
Snide was arrested and charged with filing a false police report.
