CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Add another West Ashley shopping center to the list of retail locations set to receive a makeover.
Westwood Plaza, on the corner of Sam Rittenberg Blvd. and Ashley River Road, will be be getting a much needed overhaul.
Charleston City Council member Aubrey Alexander says Kimco Realty, the company that owns the plaza, plan to add a Harris Teeter in the center. It will go in a soon-to-be vacant 50,000 square foot area.
The plan, Alexander says, is to have the Office Depot downsized and moved across the plaza. Then, the TJ Maxx will shift over. That will leave the vacant space needed for the supermarket.
Right now, both stores in the plaza are open as the process continues.
Construction will begin as soon as the lease is finalized, officials say.
The company also plans to fix the lighting and landscaping around the center, repave the parking lots and redesign its storefronts.
Kimco Realty, a New York based company, also owns the St. Andrews Shopping Center on Savannah Highway that was recently renovated.
