NORTH CHARLESTON - (WCSC) - In a preliminary vote Thursday night, a pay raise was supported for both the North Charleston Mayor and City Council members.
If approved at the City Council meeting next week, it would go into effect January 2016, the beginning of the next 4-year term.
At Thursday's council finance committee meeting, there was a unanimous vote to raise the mayor's salary to $176,255, a 18.4% hike.
It wasn't so clear cut for city council's salary, however. The vote was 6-5 to increase council member's pay to $18,779, a 17.6% raise.
The resolution needs 2 readings to be approved.
The next vote will be Thursday at the City Council meeting.
