COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Atlantic Beach Mayor Jake Evans says he was able to clear up misunderstandings when he and other officials met with Gov. Nikki Haley to discuss the town's Bikefest.
Evans would not elaborate on those misunderstandings in talking with The Sun News of Myrtle Beach after the meeting Thursday.
Atlantic Beach officials met with Haley at her office in Columbia for 45 minutes to discuss the future of the town's Bikefest held on Memorial Day weekend each year.
Haley called for an end to the motorcycle festival after three people were killed and seven others were injured in shootings in nearby Myrtle Beach after this year's event.
Evans said there was no discussion of ending the Bikefest during the latest meeting.
Haley told WBTW-TV this year's shootings must never happen again.
