Inmates hospitalized following CCSO transport van wreck on I-26

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A three car accident on I-26 eastbound involving a Charleston County Sheriff's Office transport van sent multiple inmates to the hospital with minor injuries Wednesday morning.

According to SC Highway Patrol, a CCSO inmate transport van was involved in a three car accident at 8:25 a.m. on I-26 eastbound near mile marker 218, just before the Rutledge Avenue exit. The accident resulted in a lane left lane closure, causing major delays.

Troopers say a truck slowed down for traffic and was then rear ended by a car, which was then rear ended by the transport van.

None of the vehicles were towed from the scene, troopers say.

The accident has since been cleared and traffic is once again moving.

According to Highway Patrol, the driver of the car and the driver of the transport van were found at fault. No word if they received tickets.
