MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Mount Pleasant Police say they have cited the driver of a truck that crashed into a pool on Wednesday.
Jeffrey Hughes was cited for driving under suspension, leaving the scene of an accident and driving too fast for conditions, according to Mount Pleasant Police Inspector Chip Googe. Hughes told police that an animal ran out in front of the Ford F-150 he was driving, causing him to swerve to avoid it and crash through a fence into a swimming pool at a home on the 700 block of Magnolia Street in the Old Village, Googe said.
Police responded to the home and found the vehicle in pool with gasoline leaking into pool water, the incident report states. The truck appeared to have crashed through a wooden fence and landed in the pool, police say. Several trees and shrubs were also damaged in the crash, the report states.
The homeowner told police she saw a man exit the vehicle and tell her he was going to get a tow truck, then fled on foot toward Adluh Street off Fairmont Avenue.
