Coroner identifies two killed in I-26 head-on collision near Ridgeville

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Berkeley County Coroner's Office has identified two people who died in a head-on collision on I-26 near Ridgeville early Friday morning.

The coroner says 26-year-old Anthony Pascucci of New York and 43-year-old Tonya Carson of North Carolina died at the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says say the crash happened at about 2:40 a.m. on I-26 West near mile marker 189 near Ridgeville when a Mitsubishi Lancer, driven by Pascucci, traveling east in the westbound lane struck a Mazda Tribute, driven by Carson, traveling west in the westbound lane head-on.

Coroner Bill Salisbury said both of the drivers were pronounced dead on the scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicles, Sr. Trooper Hannah Wimberly said.

At one point, the South Carolina Department of Transportation reported that all lanes in that area were closed had been reopened by 5:50 a.m.
