Cottageville man sentenced to 7 years for child porn, gun charges

COTTAGEVILLE, SC (WCSC) - A judge sentenced a Cottageville man to seven years in prison on child pornography and gun charges.

US Attorney Bill Nettles said Rusty Michael Hall was sentenced on Friday on charges of possession of child pornography and illegal possession of firearms by a convicted felon.

In addition to the seven year prison sentence, Judge Richard M. Gergel sentenced Hall to a lifetime of supervised release.

Prosecutors say on June 11, 2013 law enforcement agents with the Department of Homeland Security and the Colleton County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant for child pornography at Hall's home in Cottageville.

Officers found a TEC-9 handgun and a 20-gauge shotgun; Hall had numerous prior convictions that prohibited him from possessing firearms.

Agents say they also seized a computer and a thumb drive from Hall's home. A press release states a subsequent examination found dozens of child pornography and hundreds of images of child erotica on Hall's computer.

The case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, the ATF and the Colleton County Sheriff's Office.
