Jindal calls for more military spending

WASHINGTON (AP) - Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal says the United States must boost military spending by tens of billions of dollars to help end what he calls chaos and conflict around the world.

The Republican governor argued in a Monday speech that the nation's military has suffered devastating cuts under President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Jindal is the latest possible presidential contender weighing in on foreign policy as he considers a 2016 White House bid.

He wants to give the military about $80 billion more each year, but says spending increases should be ramped up over time. Jindal says, "We must be willing to pay the price for peace."

Pentagon spending is up slightly in recent years, despite deep cuts approved by Republicans and Democrats in Congress.
