SC gas prices are below $3 for 1st time since 2011

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - AAA Carolinas says the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas in South Carolina has fallen below $3 for the first time in nearly four years.

The travel organization said Monday that the average price for a gallon of gas was $2.97 in South Carolina, eight cents lower than a week ago and 16 cents lower over the past month.

Travel club spokeswoman Tiffany Wright says the last time the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fell below $3 was in February 2011.

The organization says Greenville-Spartanburg has the cheapest gas in South Carolina at an average of $2.92 a gallon, while Charleston area gas stations are the most expensive at an average of $3.02 a gallon.
