BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Some Berkeley county homeowners have been asking for the right to keep chickens on their property. Thanks to a proposed zoning amendment, it could happen in the next couple months.
Monday night, Berkeley County Council tabled the idea for another 30 days.
Planning Director Eric Greenway said, the county is working to figure out land requirements for a property before allowing the new ordinance.
The county currently has 12 cases on the books for code violations dealing with chickens.
The amendment would apply to more rural areas in the county, like Pimlico Plantation, and Jacob Highland Road off Hwy 52.
