West Ashley has become a focus for Charleston City leaders and business leaders.
A meeting Wednesday morning brought more direction to the plan for the area West of the Ashley and defined what steps need to be made to bring the vision to fruition.
This meeting, hosted by the Charleston Chamber of Commerce, followed a meeting on Monday where Charleston City leaders laid out the West Ashley strategic plan. It's a plan that was originally unveiled in February.
"To make that vision move forward, the City needs to make public investment and that's what government can do," said District 9 Council Member Aubry Alexander. "We're currently in conversation with some at the County level, too."
Earlier this week, Mayor Joe Riley said the City hopes to bring in a project manager dedicated solely to development in West Ashley, to ensure the beautification in the area.
