Man charged with felony indecent exposure at Starbucks

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A 40-year-old man accused of pleasuring himself at several coffee shops in Charleston is once again behind bars.

North Charleston police say John Chandler III, of St. Stephan, was arrested Tuesday evening and charged with felony indecent exposure.

Police say they were called out to Starbucks on University Blvd. on Tuesday, October 7 around 8:30 p.m. following an incident involving Chandler.

According to an incident report, the victim told police she was studying at the coffee shop when she looked up to see a man pleasuring himself at a table in front of her. The suspect was allegedly staring at the victim.

When the victim went to alert a manager, the suspect left the shop, hopped in his truck and left. A witness was reportedly able to get the suspect's license plate number before he got away.

The manager reportedly told police the suspect was a serial offender who has done the same thing at several other Starbucks locations.

The report states the responding officer recalled previous incidents involving the same circumstances and was able to pull up a picture of Chandler, who the manager positively identified as the suspect.

Chandler's SLED rap sheet lists six previous arrests for indecent exposure throughout Charleston, with the first documented on July 30, 2008.

In addition to the arrests listed by SLED,  North Charleston Police Department records show Chandler was previously arrested following similar incidents at a Starbucks on Rivers Avenue on May 25, 2011 and again at a Panera Bread on International Blvd. on September 9, 2011.

Chandler is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center. His bond was set at $50,000.
