COTTAGEVILLE, SC (WCSC) - A federal jury handed down a $97.5 million verdict to the family of former Cottageville Mayor Bert Reeves following a wrongful death trial.
The jury found the Town of Cottageville and former police officer Randall Price liable for damages in Reeves' death, according to Reeves' family attorney Mullins McLeod.
The lawsuit, filed by Reeves' family, claims the town was negligent in hiring Price.
Investigators say Price shot and killed Reeves during a confrontation in May of 2011.
Reeves' family filed the lawsuit and claims Price was reckless.
Price's history includes allegations of misconduct in office, and claims of brutality.
