Coroner IDs victim in fatal wreck with log truck

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Berkeley County Coroner's Office has identified a 70-year-old man who died Monday morning after the vehicle he was traveling in collided head-on with a log truck.

Coroner Bill Salisbury says Lawrence Phillips of Eutawville was the backseat passenger of a minivan that ran head-on into a log truck on Old State Road near Wassamassaw Swamp Bridge around 11:15 a.m.

Salisbury says Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver and front seat passenger of the van were transported to MUSC. Their condition has not been released.

After an investigation by SC Highway Patrol and the Berkeley County Coroner's Office, Phillip's death has been ruled accidental, according to the coroner.
