JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Department is on the lookout for a man who took off with a tractor trailer on Johns Island.
On the morning of Oct. 6, police responded to Old Charleston Road for a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim said sometime between Oct. 5 and 6 someone stole a 2013 green John Deer tractor from a lot.
The victim told investigators that the lot was used to store equipment which is used for lawn maintenance in the county.
According to the victim, when workers arrived on Oct. 6, they realized that one of the newer model tractors had been removed as well as a Land Prowler which was attached to the tractor.
Officers reported that surveillance video on Oct. 4 around 11 p.m. showed a man walking onto the property and pushing two of the three surveillance cameras upwards. The man then walks over to a tractor where he attempts to open the door and look through the cab.
Police say the man then walked back towards Main Road. On Oct. 5 around 3:39 p.m., a man wearing the same clothing is seen on video walking up to the tractor while speaking on the phone.
The man is then seen entering the tractor and driving it away.
Police officers patrolling the surrounding area found the Land Prowler behind an abandoned building on Old Charleston Road.
A police report states the vehicle was covered in dirt, and a discarded belt was found.
Authorities say the suspect was seen on video wearing gray pants, a black sweat shirt, work boots, black gloves, a reflective vest and a hard hat.
