CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Visitors at the South Carolina Aquarium got an early Halloween treat Friday morning.
Divers went underwater and carved up elaborate designs on a massive pumpkin as an audience watched.
Aquarium officials say it's the first time ever that a pumpkin this large have been carved underwater.
According to aquarium officials, divers worked together to carve marine-inspired designs into the pumpkin with this year's designs including bonnethead sharks and the aquarium logo.
At one point, a turtle attempted to take a bite out of the pumpkin.
Kate Ditloff with the SC Aquarium said the carving acts as a form of enrichment from the animals that live in the tank, offering visual stimulation and something new in their environment.
Another carving is scheduled at the aquarium on Halloween at 11 a.m. The carving demonstration is included with aquarium admission.
