CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A North Charleston man is behind bars after police say he drove off with a car after pulling the driver out of the vehicle in downtown Charleston.
The Charleston Police Department arrested 37-year-old Dexter Lamont Jones on Wednesday and charged him with carjacking.
Jones' arrest stems from an Oct. 18 incident on Meeting Street around 3:45 a.m. when the victim returned to his car after purchasing cigarettes at a gas station.
According to police, while sitting in his vehicle, the victim was approached by the suspect who pulled him out of the car.
Police say the suspect then got into the vehicle and drove off.
Jones was locked up at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
Police are continuing the investigation and asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111 or consolidated dispatch at 743-7200 and ask for the on-call Charleston police detective.
