The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 22 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry, received forward Caleb Herbert on assignment from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) by the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL).
Herbert, 23, dressed in four games with the Bears this season adding two assists and two penalty minutes. Skating in his first full professional season, the Bloomington, Minnesota, native completed a three-year collegiate career at the University of Minnesota – Duluth totaling 89 points (32 goals, 57 assists) in 112 contests. Following his senior season last year, Herbert appeared in seven games with the Bears and scored a goal and an assist in his first professional game on April 2 against Portland. He was selected by the Capitals in the fifth round (142nd overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
