NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - The family of a 23-year-old man says he was the victim in a deadly shooting near Spruill Avenue.
Family members say Ridge Smith was the victim of the shooting, which happened shortly after 10:30 a.m. Friday. The Charleston County Coroner's Office confirmed on Friday afternoon that Smith died of a single gunshot wound.
North Charleston police responded to the scene outside a home on English Street and say they found the victim fatally shot near a car, according to police spokesman Spencer Pryor. Smith was unresponsive and EMS pronounced him dead at the scene, the incident report states.
Neighbors told police they heard two gunshots. Witnesses say police entered a home near the location of the shooting with guns drawn.
Police say witnesses reported seeing a 4-door gold or beige-colored sedan leaving the area immediately after the shooting. North Charleston police officers put up a Crime Stoppers sign near the scene of the shooting in the hopes that someone with information would come forward.
The victim's mother said her son was home with his brother at the time of the incident.
