Suspect sought after shots fired at Remount Rd. convenience store

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

North Charleston police are on the lookout after a man attempting to steal goods from a Remount Road convenience store was able to get a hold of a store clerk's gun and fire off multiple shots.

Police say the incident began just before 6:30 a.m. when a clerk at SS Mart, located at 1629 Remount Road, confronted a man who was spotted on surveillance video stealing an item.

After the suspect became aggressive, the clerk said she pulled out a handgun and told the suspect she was calling police. When the suspect walked to the back of the store, the clerk put her gun on the counter and followed him.

The suspect reportedly then went to the front of the store, grabbed the employee's gun, and walked out.

A report states the employee and a customer chased after the suspect, who fired off three rounds while running away.

No one was injured and no property was damaged.

Police say the suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6-feet tall and 170 pounds. He was wearing a white t-shirt, black jeans, and has a goatee.

If you have any information about this incident, call Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
