COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC/WIS) - Officials at the Richland County Coroner's Office say one of two victims of an apparent murder-suicide in Columbia was a man from Goose Creek.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said 21-year-old Brandon D. Early died from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Early's body was found at the Copper Beach Apartments Tuesday night along with the body of 20-year-old Diamoney Greene of Columbia who died of a single gunshot wound to the head; WIS-TV is reporting Greene was a criminal justice major at the University of South Carolina.
According to Watts, the shooting happened either this past Saturday or Sunday.
The Richland County Sheriff's Office says a roommate found the two victims in the 2100 building of the apartment complex.
According to the Copper Beech website, the complex provides housing for college students. Lt. Curtis Wilson with the RCSO says there was no threat of a gunman on the loose, but some people who live in the complex are concerned for their safety. In May, deputies were called to the complex after a security guard reported someone fired shots at him.
"You kind of feel unsafe in your apartment complex," Nick Stevens, who lives in the complex, said. "You don't feel safe that two people are found dead. So that's my initial reaction, just not feeling safe. It wasn't as bad last year, there were some incidents, someone wasn't shot, but there were gunshots, which happens. I mean, it's not supposed to happen, but it happens. But no, I definitely would have not signed a lease is knowing all this information."
Officials from the Richland County Sheriff's Department are continuing to investigate the incident.
