Facebook commenters joke about North Charleston shootings.

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Some people have decided to take out their frustrations over recent shootings in North Charleston and even joke about them on Live 5's Facebook page.

Commenters post photos that say, "You're surprised there was a crime in North Charleston? You must be new here."

Another photo parodies a commercial, reading, "You'll get shot in North Charleston, I guarantee it."

Corey Michael Cook commented, "Live 5, a shooting in North Chuck is no longer news."

It has North Charleston workers and residents upset.

“It's pretty disturbing that people are making a joke out of it, Marrissa McCarthy said. “It's not a joke. It's not funny."

"Maybe it's their way of dealing with it, but I don't think they're appropriate,” Tami Records said. “And I don't necessarily think it's true."

"It's very unfortunate that anyone would paint our city with such a broad brush of ignorance really," Mayor Pro-tem Ron Brinson said.

Brinson says the city is safe but is working to cut down on crime.

"All of the shootings and gun violence that we hear about and read about is regrettable,” Brinson said. “There are reasons for it, whether we're talking about too many guns, gangs, drugs, or a lack of parenting."

"I still find it to be a nice place to live," Sarah Richardson said.

"I definitely think there's crime everywhere, McCarthy said. “It's just that some places are better known for it than others."
