MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) - It's a sign of the season in the South Carolina Lowcountry as the annual Crèche Festival at Mepkin Abbey begins.
Each year the monks at the Trappist Abbey near Moncks Corner display dozens of crèches from the abbey's collection of more than 700 nativity sets.
This is the 12th year of the event, which includes a special exhibit of wise men from the Mepkin collection as well as additional nativity sets from local collectors.
This year's festival runs for 16 days. It continues through next Sunday, Nov. 23. The festival reopens on Friday, Nov. 28 and then continues through Dec. 6.
Admission is free but those attending need to make reservations.
